How Does SPRAVATO® Work?
A low dose of SPRAVATO® is given through a nasal spray. After about five minutes, another small dose is given. Your provider will watch over you during a two-hour observation period. We recommend wearing an eye mask, listening to calming music, and taking this time to relax and focus on yourself.
During your SPRAVATO® treatment, you will be carefully monitored. This includes checking your blood pressure, pulse, and some mental health assessments both before and after your session.
The side effects of SPRAVATO® fade away fairly quickly, and you can go home about 2 hours after the treatment is finished. However, you must have someone else drive you home. It’s important not to drive until the next day after getting a good night’s sleep.
During the treatment, some patients may feel a dream-like or altered state, which many find quite pleasant.
We understand that navigating insurance coverage for SPRAVATO® can be a source of stress for our patients. At our office, we are committed to making this process as seamless as possible. While some insurance providers do cover SPRAVATO®, others may not.

SPRAVATO® is designed for adults dealing with severe symptoms of major depressive disorder, including suicidal thoughts and behaviors. It is also meant for those with treatment-resistant depression, a condition that must be assessed and diagnosed by a qualified medical professional.
If you have tried two or more standard depression treatments, like talk therapy, prescription medications, or advanced options such as TMS or regular ketamine therapy, without lasting relief or positive results, SPRAVATO® might be the right option for you.
Process of SPRAVATO®
The first step to starting SPRAVATO® treatment is a complete psychiatric evaluation, which is fully covered by insurance. This evaluation will help decide if SPRAVATO® is the right choice for you, especially if you have treatment-resistant depression and have already tried two or more treatments without success.
If SPRAVATO® is found to be the best option for you, our certified staff will explain the entire treatment process and any important safety details, so you know exactly what to expect.
During each session, our trained clinicians will guide you on how to use the SPRAVATO® nasal spray correctly. After you take the spray, you will be asked to rest while our team closely watches for any side effects. After about two hours of monitoring, your session will end, and you can head home
