What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a medication that was first created in the 1960s to be used as an anesthetic during surgeries. It is known as a dissociative anesthetic because it can make people feel separated from themselves and their surroundings.
Besides its use in surgeries, ketamine has been found to have other helpful medical uses. It is sometimes used off-label to treat conditions like depression and chronic pain. Ketamine is believed to work by changing the levels of certain brain chemicals, such as glutamate and dopamine.
How Does Ketamine Help with Mood Disorders?
Do you struggle with a mood disorder like depression, anxiety, or PTSD? You’re not alone—these conditions can seriously affect your life. Thankfully, there is hope. Ketamine, which was originally developed as an anesthetic, has shown to be an effective treatment for mood disorders.
So, how does ketamine help? It changes certain brain chemicals, like glutamate and dopamine, which play a key role in managing mood and emotions. By adjusting these chemicals, ketamine can quickly reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, often within hours after treatment.
Moreover, ketamine can help grow new connections in the brain, improving overall brain health and resilience. This makes ketamine a good option for people who have not had success with traditional antidepressants or other treatments.
At Bluegrass Health and Consulting Services, we offer ketamine therapy in a safe and supportive environment. Our experienced team will create a treatment plan just for you, based on your specific needs.
Don’t let a mood disorder take over your life. Reach out to us today to find out how ketamine therapy can help you feel better and regain control of your mental health.

The Ketamine Infusion Process
During a ketamine treatment for a mood disorder, a patient will typically receive an intravenous (IV) infusion of the medication. The treatment is typically administered in a medical office or clinic, and usually takes about 40 minutes to an hour.
Our patients can relax in a comfortable chair, and a small IV catheter will be inserted into their arm. The ketamine will be administered through the IV at a slow, controlled rate. The patient will be monitored throughout the treatment by the healthcare provider.
Patients may experience some dissociation during the treatment, which means they might feel detached from their surroundings, or they might experience changes in perception, such as feeling as if they are in a dreamlike state or experiencing changes in the way they perceive time, colors, or shapes. These side effects usually subside shortly after the infusion.
After treatment, the patient will be observed for a short period of time by our staff before being allowed to go home. It is advised that patients should not drive or operate heavy machinery for at least 24 hours after the treatment.
Side Effects from Ketamine Treatment
During the ketamine infusion, you may experience changes in your mental state, such as feeling dissociated or detached from your surroundings. However, you will remain alert and able to communicate with our medical team throughout the treatment. Some patients have also reported temporary side effects like blurred vision, slurred speech, mental confusion, nausea, and vomiting. Rest assured that these effects are typically short-lived and resolve once the infusion is complete.
For your safety and the safety of others, it’s important to avoid driving, operating machinery, or making important decisions for the remainder of the day after your treatment. We require that you arrange for a responsible driver to take you home after your infusion, and ideally have someone stay with you for the rest of the day to monitor your condition.
